PRESSED FOR TIME

JOHN SCOGGINS

dj / promotional copy

Tiger Lily Records, TL 14059

1976

Rarely seen on eBay or elsewhere, John Scoggins' 1976 sole outing on the notorious tax-scam label, Tiger Lilly.

Post mersey-influenced guitar-driven, super melodic pop that has also been called "fantastic sunny folk psych," "rare power psych."  Scoggins sings in a nasal, almost punky tenor and the backing musicians are great.  One of the guitarists was Debi Tressler, later of the group American Girls (which also featured Louise Goffin). I don't know if she's playing lead guitar but whoever it is really soars...  The overall recording has a DIY feel coupled with really good material - definitely worthy of your listening (and collecting) time!

The cover is simple, but with a clever concept - it shows the image of an opened Polaroid, where Scoggins is playing for a group of naked flower children in the positive image, but the negative image is a completely different shot.  Rear cover has a paste-over with some of the credits.  I assume it was added as a correction/addition after the fact.  Copyright is by R. A. Inbows, Ltd. (= RAINBOWS!)

PLEASE NOTE: A NUMBER OF PEOPLE WHO ARE FAMILIAR WITH THIS LP HAVE CONTACTED ME SINCE THE START OF THE AUCTION TO NOTE THEY HAVE NEVER SEEN A COPY WITH THE PASTED ON CREDITS. I JUST WANTED TO LET POTENTIAL BIDDERS BE AWARE OF THIS NEW(at least to me!) INFORMATION.

Condition:   Light scuffing and some light scratches - in the vg - vg+ range, but very, very listenable. - a bit of surface noise, but sounds great. The cover has a large cut-out hole in the upper right front corner and, although I wouldn't consider it completely trashed, it's certainly far from near mint - multiple stains, ring wear, edge and corner wear, but no seam splits.  The photos should give you a pretty clear idea of it's condition.

Shipping: The record will be removed from it's outer jacket, protected in a plastic sleeve with the jacket and mailed in an LP mailer,  Shipping within the United States will be $3 media mail or $5 priority mail.  Insurance will be additional, based on the amount of the winning bid and is recommended, as I will not be responsible for damage to carefully/properly packaged records.  International shipping will be calculated based on the winner's location.

Acceptable forms of payment: cash, money orders (except for International winners) and PayPal. Payment must be received within 10 days of auction’s end, or seller reserves the right to cancel transaction and either relist the item or offer it to the next highest bidder.

Thanks for looking and good luck to all who bid!
