Description
Original LP release from John Smylie, The Other Side Of Day, issued in 1981 by Green Mountain (GMS-4035). LP and cover – still in the shrinkwrap – are in beautiful near mint condition, flawless.
Here’s Ken Scott’s take on this sublime recording:
“Vermont folk-singer of Episcopal persuasion with a wholesome delicate acoustic style that’s like a drink from a cool fresh stream. Simple relaxed finger-picked 12-string sound with recorder, violin and soft electric leads adding texture and beauty, while Jenifer Nields provides some lovely ethereal backing vocals. All songs by Smylie with titles like ‘For God Alone’, ‘Speak To Me, Speaker’, ‘I Am A Flower In Your Hand’, ‘Before Your Cross’, ‘You, Jesu’ and the eight-minute ‘My Love Song Is Your Name’. Title track challenges the morality of nuclear weapons (“Satan rides the megatons, he kisses their slick heads…Jesus hangs upon a cross, the other side of day”).”
