Description

Johnny Wicks -as listed in Blues Records-( real name Johnny Wickcliffe) bass, only had two fairly obscure issues on United so I am selling both together. The band includes 'Preacher Man' Stephens on vocals and tuba! Stephens also recorded for RPM in 1954 and Fran in 1957. On the record labels, Wicks is shown as Wick just to compound the variations.
On United 116 'Jockey Jack boogie' is an uptempo rocker with shouted vocals and piano plus a tuba intro and closing solo which rocks along and sounds fine.'Big Horn' is a slow bluesy shouter with sax.
On  United 126 'Glasgow' KY is obviously not Glasgow, Scotland, UK if anyone was wondering! It's slow with a shouted vocal.  'Blue Dawn' is a slow sax lead bluesy instrumental with shouted encouragement by Stephens.
The session took place in Chicago, 1952.
