Description
You are bidding on "WORRIED MAN BLUES" and "MONEY TAKING WOMAN" by JOHNNY YOUNG and JOHNNY WILLIAM on ORA NELLE 712 recorded in Chicago in 1947.
This record was made by the legendary Ora Nelle Record Company at 831 Maxwell Street in Chicago. Little Walter made his first record on Ora Nelle and sang on the Maxwell Street sidewalks busking in the late 1940s. In the 1960s and 70s, a Sunday morning drive to the Maxwell Street market was incredible. Nearly every block had a black blues or gospel singer set up on the sidewalk with and electric guitar, amp and speaker. By 1980 (the last time I was there) there were electric blues bands set up, with a hat being constantly being passed around for quarters. It was something never to be forgotten. By then, most of the buildings were torn down for urban renewal. Maxwell Street is now a memory.
I'm sure this a very rare record, an excellent addition to your collection!
Condition: This record looks and plays an E or E-. There are no scratches or scuffs. I would call it an E- for playing quality. The grooves in "Worried Man Blues" are slightly eliptical so there is very slight sound distortion. I have carefully cleaned this with only a wet, soft cloth.
I am getting up in years and am selling my small collection, as my children and grandchildren are not interested.
