Description

On offer is a 1971 LP from JON RENNARD called THE PARTING GLASS on TRADITION, catalogue number TSR 010.

This is the second and posthumous release of the Yorkshire folk singer/guitarist Jon Rennard, killed in a car accident in 1971. His debut, Brimbledon Fair, was a studio recording, but The Parting Glass was recorded live at Bate Hall Folk Club, Macclesfield, in November 1970. It mixes traditional songs ('The Holmfirth Anthem', 'Banks of the Sweet Primroses') with contemporary material ('Leon Rossellson's 'Jumbo the Elephant') and the odd original ('In Your Smile'). A fine memorial to a lost talent, it's difficult not to recall Nic Jones at times, and 'The Parting Glass' achieves added poignancy due to the circumstances.

This is the tenth release on the Tradition label, a small independent which pressed in quantities similar to private pressings (100 to 500).

The record is NEAR MINT, with a bright sheen, and little or no scratches, ticks, pops and definitely no jumping. The LAMINATE cover is  near mint condition, and could have been printed yesterday. There is no spindle wear on the labels. It comes in the original poly lined inner sleeve.

"Obscure folk in mint condition !! What's not to like !!!" - stormcrowfolk, from the Feedback Profile.

The albums comes from the collection of the late Ian Chappell, director of the Hampshire-based South Eastern Museums Service. A devoted collector of folk music, Chappell would obsessively buy multiple copies of the same record in search of vinyl perfection. They were acquired by the seller at auction from Omega Auctions of Stockport in June 2012.

To be shipped in the STRONGEST 625 MICRON BEST 12” BROWN BOARD MAILER COMPLETE WITH 2 STIFFENERS and plastic sleeve.
