As far as tunes by The Joneses goes (aka Glenn "G.D." Dorsey & The Big J), people always rave about "Movin' On", "Who Loves You" and "Summer Groove". But few seems to be aware of the 45 up for grabs here. "Love Contest" is a TOTALLY POUNDING uptempo modern soul / northern soul dancer in the same style as O'Jays "I Love Music" which still seems to be unknown to most people. Strings-a-plenty, gritty vocals and hooks all over the place. LISTEN TO THIS IF YOU DON'T KNOW THIS! There's huge potential in this tune and it's also a VERY RARE 45 (this was never issued on 12"). NOTE that the ballad flipside "Baby" was also issued on the VMP label, but "Love Contest" was ONLY ISSUED on this Spring label 45. This is in stunning condition!
