Description

Josef Lhevinne, born in Orel, Moscou, December 13, 1874, died in New York, December 2, 1944, was a Russian pianist. Studied at the Conservatory in Moscow under Vassili Safonov, diploma 1891, 1895 Prize Rubinstein. 1902-06 professor at the Conservatory Moscow, 1906 debut in the States. Returned to Germany and was captured in Berlin during the World War I. After the war he settled to the States, since 1922 professor at the Juillard School.

12" Victor 8766: Schumann, Toccata in C major op. 7 / Schumann-Liszt, Spring Night. Condition: 2-3, scuffs, sticker on  label

12" Victor 8869: Chopin, Etude in A minor op. 25 No 11 / Etude in A flat major op. 10 No 6 and Etude in G sharp minor op. 25 No 6. Condition: 2-3, slight scratches

Grading:

1 = mint, never played on gramophone, is not used

1-2 = top copy, no traces of use - virtually as new

2 = excellent copy, few light non-sounding rubs/marks

2-3 = light traces of wear (rubs/marks), very light greying and/or light scratches, non sounding blemishes

3 = a good average copy with more noticeable rubs and marks; light greying, few light scratches possible

3-4 = more traces of use, sonic wear from light greying. An inferior average copy, light scratches possible

4 = some sounding wear, heavier rubs and marks, scratches possible

5 = obvious sounding wear, heavy rubs, marks, scratches. An unsatisfactory copy.
