JOY DIVISION: Original, Sandpaper Cover “The Return Of The Durutti Column” Still in it’s 1980 Cellophane, Virgin Records Label, Price-tag And The Martin Hannett 7in Flexi EP.
This item is one of a complete private Joy Division/Related collection of fine quality being offered to the public. Packing And Shipping Are Free. Description:
This is almost certainly the only Original Sandpaper Cover “The Return Of The Durutti Column” 12in LP, still in it’s 1980 Cellophane, with The Virgin Records Label, Price-tag and The Martin Hannett 7in Flexi EP that came with it.
As this LP was first realest in January 1980, and the Price-tag on it indicates this same month, then this LP was most likely first sold in the Manchester Virgin Records Shop, this same shop is the one that Ian Curtis worked in, and the one that Bernard Sumner and Peter Hook first advertised in its window for a singer/front-man.
This album was produced by Martin Hannett in 1979, with 3600 made/printed and only 2000 were accompanied by a 7in flexible disc with two Martin Hannett compositions on it.
The sandpaper sleeves were mostly stuck-together by Joy Division, mainly by Ian Curtis as he was given some pounds/money to do this as the others past their time in Factory Records.
The cover idea was from Tony Wilson, inspired by the book cover of “Guy Debord’s Memoirs”, which had a sandpaper cover to destroy other book covers on the shelf with it, as a “Situationist Joke!”
All items cover, LP and flexi disc are in very good or excellent condition, and each kept in an acid-free holder.
