Description

Up for auction I have an increasingly scarce 1st press copy of Joy Divisions debut album Unknown Pleasures.Catalogue Number Factory Records FACT 10.This comes housed in the original TEXTURED sleeve printed by Garrod and Lofthouse Ltd,famous for printing many iconic record covers including many Beatles sleeves.
Onto the condition:

The fragile textured outer sleeve is in vg+ condition with edge wear, creasing and ringwear.Certainly no splits rips or tears.A decent,if far from perfect example in my opinion.

Inner sleeve with rounded corners is  in excellent- condition with  finger marks and the odd light crease and a small brown stain to one corner.Again no splits, rips or tears.Completely intact.

The vinyl is in lovely condition with absolutely no scuffs,it has one scratch right at the end of side 2,and there are a couple of clicks that go into the run out groove, nothing major in my opinion. That aside it plays absolutely fantastic and smooth for 99.9% of the record.I'm just being as honest as I can, that's all.I have 100% positive feedback and very much want to keep it that way.The matrix etchings are consistent with a true 1st pressing. On the Outside side it reads "THIS IS THE WAY". On the Inside it reads "STEP". There is hardly any spindle wear at all,so I would guess this hasn't been played much in its 30 year life at all. A lovely example of this most classic of records.
The vinyl I must stress is thick apaque black and not one of the ultra rare translucent copies. Those seem virtually impossible to trace nowadays.

Cover

The front cover image comes from an edition of the Cambridge Encyclopedia of Astronomy, and was originally drawn with black lines on a white background. It presents exactly 100 successive pulses from the first pulsar discovered, PSR B1919+21—often referred to in the context of this album by its older name, CP 1919.[5] The image was suggested by Bernard Sumner and the cover design is credited to Joy Division, Peter Saville and Chris Mathan. The back cover of the album contains no track listings, leaving a blank table where one would expect the listings to be. The original release came in a textured sleeve.[3]

The original LP release contained no track information on the labels, nor the traditional "side one" and "side two" designations. The ostensible "side one" was labeled Outside and displayed a reproduction of the image on the album cover, while the other side was labeled Inside and displayed the same image with the colors reversed (black-on-white).[3] Track information and album credits appeared on the inner sleeve only.

[edit] Groove notations

European pressing: Near the inner groove of the Outside is etched in script: "This is the way" and the Inside has "Step". Both lines are taken from the song "Atrocity Exhibition", which was released on the follow up Closer album, a year later.

RECORD COLLECTOR GRADING SYSTEM

MINT :
The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed be Mint.

EXCELLENT :
The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.

VERY GOOD :
The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

SMALL PRINT : I am first and foremost a collector, and grade strictly as I wish everyone would. Records will be well-packed between cardboard, and sent in record mailers. In the interests of the environment, these will be recycled whenever possible. All records are sent with a certificate of posting, if you wish additional insurance please ask – I cannot be held responsible for missing parcels.

I may use a + or a - to emphasise a grading which may be inbetween a grade. I will never use a mint grading for a 2nd hand/used record for instance. Mint- will be the very highest grade.

PLEASE NOTE THAT I DO NOT,AND WILL NOT,RETRACT A BID FOR ANYONE REGARDLESS OF THE EXCUSE.THIS IS SOMETHING YOU WILL HAVE TO DO YOURSELF USING THE BID RETRACTION FORM AND EARN A BID RETRACTION STRIKE AGAINST YOURSELF.
Paypal ONLY accepted for buyers outside the United Kingdom(UK).No exceptions on this, sorry.
