JOY DIVISION-WARSAW-ORIGINAL 7" IDEAL BEGINNING-RARE!!!
Here is a superb record that I will describe in detail to do its justice. Firstly to the record itself....
From the website www.joydiv.org/I2.htm I have learned the following.......
"A little detective work revealed the source to be Manchester's Chaos Cassettes who claimed that it was not so much a bootleg as 'An underground collectors edition'. John West, the man responsible for Chaos releases said "We only had 2000 pressed so that it would remain collectable. It was done with the approval of the group's management. They did it just the same as they did the Sordide Sentimental deal last year. They did it just to show people what early Joy Division were like". Enclosed in a sleeve designed after An Ideal For Living, the EP's were issued on May 18th 1981, exactly one year after Ian's death. A bootleg in all but name, royalties of a fashion were paid to the band."
Anyway, this record is in absolutely pristine condition!! I have played it on a LINN Sondek record player and found it to be free from faults. There is some surface noise in the lead in and lead out tracks and on the in between bit between "Gutz" and "At a later date." Certainly nothing more than ony other brand new 7" single that I would have bought brand new at the time.
For those buyers who remember buying 7" pressings of the 70's and 80's, it was nothing to have the odd bit of noise in the lead in/out area. If you are expecting CD quality ultra ultra silence, try and find a CD reissue digitally restored from the master tapes...bit clinical and lacking in depth i've always found!!
In fact I will give the winning bidder a FREE CD recording direct from the LINN Sondek. This will be no tinny "USB record player" affair. This will be a High quality recording from the LINN, via a NAIM amp and straight to a Pioneer CD recorder with manual level recording. NOT a computer!!!!
The record comes supplied in what looks to be the original vinyl cover. The sleeve itself is a folded paper affair and it has been protected wonderfully by the cover. I have included photographs of the sleeve out of the cover as well as in. Note- study all the photo's carefully and see how nice this record is.
I really doubt whether a beter copy is available. Remember, these were only pressed in a limited edition of 2000 way back in 1981 and thats nearly 30 years ago!!
I discovered this record only yesterday. It was amongst an old fashioned record box that hadn't been opened since the late 1980's. I was clearing a garage for my friend and he didn't even know it was there. He was given this box of records in the mid 1980's by someone and he remembers how well the bloke looked after his records. He just put the box away and forgot all about it. House moves came and went and this box has remained unopened...until yesterday!! There are several interesting items that I'll be putting on ebay over the next few days so do have a look at my other items or save me as a favourite seller.
To sum up...
- This record has had very little play in its life, but obviously it has been played a bit
- The vinyl shines beautifully and is without problems.
- The record plays fine with no issues
- The sleeve is in lovely condition showing only minor signs of ownership
I would grade this record a very high EX/EX (Sleve graded first)
This is a very rare record, but I am starting it at a comparitively low opening bid of £9.99 WITH FREE UK POSTAGE.

Mint (M) The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet. booklet or poster are in perfect condiition. Records marked as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint. Excellent (EX) The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing. Very Good (VG) The record has obviously been played many times, but displayes no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects is acceptable Good (G) Te record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc Fair (F) The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced. Poor (P) The record will not play properly due to scratched, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing Bad (B) The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler CD's and CASSETTES As a general rule CD's and Cassettes either play perfectly - inwhich case they are in Mint condition - or they don't, in which case their value is minimal. Cassette tape is liable to deteriorate with age, even if it remains unplayed, so care should be taken when buying old tapes. CD's are difficult to grade visually; they can look perfect but actually be faulty, while in other cases they may appear damaged but still play perfectly. Cassette and CD inlays and booklets should be graded in the same way as record covers and sleeves. In general, the plastic containers for cassettes and CDs can easily be replaces if they are broken or scratched, but card covers and digipaks are subject to the same wear as record sleeves.
