TITLE: SOUL AND SKA
LABEL: ISLAND ILP 968
This is Joyce Bond's mega rare 'Soul and Ska' LP on Chris Blackwell's Island label. This is a first press copy from 1967 and very few copies ever turn up in playable condition even, let alone one like this which plays with virtually no deterioration in sound quality. This really is an album which got 'played to death at wild parties' to quote the ebay sellers' cliche. BUT THIS COPY DID NOT! The vinyl is EX - has some light non-sounding marks which you can see under a light bulb and the 'orange eye' rough pink labels are great - just a name in small letters on side one which could probably be removed. The cover is very respectable for this LP - as you can there is a small area over the 's' in Ska where a tiny piece of the colour is missing, there is edge rubbing, a spine split and a bit of feathering at the opening edge. So I can only grade the cover G++ to VG-. However this LP plays great and won't disappoint.
