ITEM:    Rare and in demand 4 LP Box Set with Poster. Each individual LP has it's own cardboard jacket and inner sleeve.  " J.R.R. Tolkien Soundbook ", read by J.R.R. Tolkien and his son Christopher Tolkien. Songs performed by J.R.R. Tolkien and William Elvin. Donald Swann pianist.    Caedmon  Record label, catalog number SBR-101. 

COMMENTS / CONDITION:   This LP set came from a private collection, and is not an ex-library item or a scratched up LP bought at a yard sale. The record was visually graded, and was spot checked  test played. Please see the attached pictures for the Track Listings.

Grading is according to Goldmine Standards. If you are not familiar with that system, please go to the Goldmine web site and read the grading details BEFORE YOU BID.  

Vinyl playing surface is VG++ to Excellent condition, retaining a mirror like gloss. A few wispy scuffs/hairlines can be seen, but appear to be cosmetic, and do not affect the listening experience. There are no chips, cracks, groove wear, or deep scratches. I did not test play the  LPs from start to finish. I selected random samplings from different areas of each LP to test. On my older system, all short segments that were spot checked played with clear, crisp sound.  No harsh surface noise, skips or groove lock.    

NOTE: Sound quality will vary from system to system. The above comments are included strictly as reference, and are not a statement as to the experience you may have with your equipment.

Labels are in very good condition with no peeling edges, rips, or writing. Center hole remains perfectly round with no evidence of abusive playing.

The outer cardboard slip-case is in strong G+ to VG-  condition, obviously have performed it's duties admirably in protecting the contents within from any type of damage. The edges show heavy shelf wear/scraping. Both front and back sides have heavy rub wear present. The top flap of the slip-case has come unglued from the from the box. It can probably be easily re-glued, but I leave that to the discretion of the next owner.  No stickers, labels, or price tags.  This is not a cut-out; no punch holes, notches, or clipped corners.

Each of the four LPs have their own individual cardboard jackets, all in very good to excellent condition. The corner tips on the left side have have minor scuffs from where they were exposed by the opening edge of the slip-case. Colors are crisp and bright, art-work and graphics are sharp and clear. All seams are strong with no splits. Spines are straight and firm and are easily readable.

Inner sleeves are standard studio plain white items.

The poster remains in excellent condition, and appears to never have been hung. No tape residue or thumb tack holes. No rips, stains, or dog eared corners. There are two tiny pin-head sized holes in the intersection of two of the original factory folds.

Other than gently wipe the discs with a damp cotton cloth to remove any tiny dust particles from the grooves, I have not tried to clean the vinyl or the labels. Serious collectors usually have their own preferred methods they use to care for their records.
