One for dreamers everywhere, and just to add a dark sting in the tail, the matter under analysis is left somewhat unresolved at the end...

Please note that we are dealing here with antiquated records here, often in excess of 60 years old. Almost as a matter of course there will be surface marks to both sides of the disc. The gradings and description invariably note that there will be such blemishes, which is to be expected resulting from years of storage and use.
As each record is played and checked before the eBay process commences the grading is primarily concerned with playback quality, the sound of the music that emanates and, hopefully, delights.
Individual details for each record are noted, and if playback is compromised in any way this, too, is noted. Not many 60+ year old records are blemish-free, but when they do turn up, the grading reflects this and, as such, is noted.
This record I have graded as being in Good++ condition. Both sides play through with no jumping, skipping or any other audio horrors. There are the usual accumulation of minor hairline scratches and other noticeable surface marks, `clicks` and `pops` that any 78 of this vintage would gather over the passage of time. They are mainly visual and have no undue impact on playback, apart from low-level surface noise, again, common to any used 78, and which shouldn't spoil your authentic listening experience!
There is slight warping to the disc, but playback is unaffected by this, and it is more visually noticeable when playing The Jitterbug, although I would stress that playback is fine for both sides.

Comes in a paper sleeve, in reasonable condition, with creases.folds and scuffs. It's somewhere decent to store the record, rather than stick it in a box...
The Brunswick label is in good condition, with light wear and scuff marks to both sides, as shown in the picture uploaded. In black and gold, with all the attendant artistry evident, so much a part of the 78 rpm experience...There is a small (8mm diameter) sticker on the `..Rainbow` side, possibly a filing reference, as it just has the number 18 on it, and is not a `Mecolico` Tax stamp.

78 rpm records are posted in sturdy Record Mailers with additional stiffeners inserted, and, with extra bubble wrap, for extra protection, including the use of a dedicated mailing box, similar in style to a PIzza Box, if you're familiar with one of them...
Please see the description below of how Record Collector Magazine grades vinyl. This is the system that I use.
MINT: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.
EXCELLENT: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and / or creasing.
VERY GOOD: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.
GOOD: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.
FAIR: The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents will be torn, stained and / or defaced.
POOR: The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.
BAD: The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection filler.
As well as the above grades, Near Mint is often used as well; this is really for a record that appears new but is known to have been played because the label has light spindle marks or because it has come from a previous owner and is assumed to have been played by them. For records which appear to fall between the accepted grades, + and - are also often added to the grading.
