Description
JUDY GARLAND "Wizard of Oz" 78 RPM DECCA Record Set
GOOD CONDITION
ITEM DESCRIPTION:
Up for auction is one of the most rarest and sought-after DECCA Record Sets - the original 1939 DECCA Set Number 74 "The Wizard of Oz". And what makes this extremely sought-after, it has the original 6-page, triple foldout brochure. Many of these were lost or thrown out over the 70-year period. This one is intact and in very good condition. This package is so rare, I will try and describe each of the items in detail. Included in this auction is the following:- 1939 DECCA Record Album - This set contains four 78 RPM records. The sleeves for the records are clean, tight and secure to the inside binding. The top front/back covers read "DECCA presents the Musical Score from METRO-GOLDWYN-MAYER'S Motion Picture TRIUMPH". The bottom of the front/back covers read "LYRICS by E.Y. Harburg, MUSIC by Harold Arlen." In the middle portion of the front/back covers are the huge letters that spell out "THE WIZARD OF OZ". Incorporated within each of the letters are 13 actual scenes from the film. The covers are somewhat worn with the usual nicks, scratches and edge wear that you would expect a 70 year-old record set would have. The black fabric binding is intact and is slightly frayed at the top and bottom (not bad). On the spine it reads "THE WIZARD OF OZ, DECCA ALBUM 74" in gold lettering. On the inside front/back covers you have 22 actual scenes with descriptive text from the film along with photos and signatures of Judy Garland and the Composers. This provides a complete story in pictures and text as well as a look at the artists of the Decca Records and the Composers of the Musical Score.
- 6-page, triple foldout brochure - Here is the actual brochure that was included in the record set. It includes a list of the scores from the four 10-inch records and well as biographical notes of the composers: Harold Arlen (Music) and E.Y. Harburg (Lyrics). In good condition with some creases and a few small tears on the corners.
- Four 10-inch 78 RPM DECCA records. These records are in very good condition (clean and hardly any scratches - appears they were hardly played). See below for a list of the scores on these records.
List of Scores (Songs) on the Records:
- 2672A - OVER THE RAINBOW (JUDY GARLAND)
- 2672b - THE JITTERBUG (JUDY GARLAND)
- 2673A - MUNCHKINLAND (PART1)
- 2673B - MUNCHKINLAND (PART2)
- 2674A - IF I ONLY HAD A BRAIN
- 2674B - IF I ONLY HAD A HEART
- 2675A - THE MERRY OLD LAND OF OZ
- 2675B - WE'RE OFF TO SEE THE WIZARD
If you are a serious collector of Wizard of Oz or Judy Garland, then you have stumbled upon one of the most sought-after record sets of all time from METRO-GOLDWYN-MAYER and DECCA. Don't let this one slip by.
