Description
Ah, those were the days when your five-a-day came with all the trimmings...........
I guess was controversial photo artwork and depending on one's viewpoint this fruity spread was either titillating, amusing, uncomfortable, gross or obnoxious. Different times and culture though and the aim was to grab attention and generate sales so little has changed in that respect.
The matt non-laminated gatefold sleeve is in average condition. The front has a union flag sticker below the Vertigo logos where someone has covered an earlier sticker tear (probably a price tag, never a good idea on plain card!). Another sticker tear is a quarter of the way down in the middle. The corners and leading edges show wear. But the inner sides are good and the spine is solid apart from the aforementioned tip wear. I would rate the sleeve condition as 6 /10.
For the record itself, the labels are clean. The spindle hole looks tight and shows only a handful of plays. On the white label, side B, the black mark is a pressing blemish which is not uncommon. On the run-off grooves, side A matrix no. is 847901 (in hand scratched) VO (struck through) 12Y ^ // 1 ^ 420 11 6 and side B matrix no. is 847901 (machine etched) V02 (struck out) 2Y//2 ^ 420 11 6. Seems to me there was an issue conflict between the VO2 and 847901 numbering for the record.
The vinyl is flat and shiny. But is a classic example of poor handling and lack of care in use (note: ideally pick up the record by the rim with both hands and tuck the rim in your palm with a couple of fingers on the label thereby not touching the playing surface........and be careful with the playing arm!) As such when angled under a bright light I can see multiple scuffs and marks so I have to give the plastic a rating of 6 /10.
The Vertigo polythene lined inner bag is in unmarked and untorn shape but as usual does show age and glue browning.
No reserve and auction will run to end. Thanks.
