VERY RARE 1st US pressing White Label Promo MONO issue from 1971
Mono promo editions at this date (1971) were pressed in EXTREMELY small numbers comparative to the stereo promos (which themselves are a small percentage of the total release pressings) - FM radio had become dominant by the time of this release, phasing out the need for promo copies specific to the AM music stations which broadcast a mono signal.
Most of the later period Atlantic/ATCO/Cotillion mono promos were created through the CSG processing system (identified on the promo stickers) which was basically a stereo dump-down mix (running both channels into one channel and then redirecting the combined signal back into the two separate channels and compressing the signal in order to eliminate overly dominant frequencies). The ones that did not use CSG required studio-specific mono mixes by staff engineers and often the producers themselves. This is one of those. The result is significantly greater audio dynamics.
Condition:
The cover is in solid VG+ condition - the corners are a bit soft, and there is some mild aging to the white cover, but no structural issues. There is a DJ promotional sticker with suggest air-play cuts, and a Monaural sticker that does not identify the CSG processing system.
The LP has a couple of spindle markings on the Side 2 label; the vinyl surfaces are extremely clean and free from any play evidence. Near Mint.
