This Vertigo first pressing plays to an incredible standard with no interference. The audio is so powerful and dynamic and during the quieter sections the clarity is stunning. The depth and warmth of the audio also cannot be underestimated. This album has clearly been so well preserved and whilst it has been played it has lost none of its original sonic 'integrity', the playback is outstanding. It is a FINAL UPGRADE archive pressing in every way.
The gatefold is in excellent condition with not too much shelf wear and the original swirl inner is also very clean with only light wear.
This is a first pressing because it has 'A Philips Record Product' at the bottom of the label. The time for the first track on S2 is shown as 4.2 rather than 4.20 on the S2 label.

Visual description
The vinyl is in excellent condition and still has a strong glossy sheen and no scratches. Under a bright light I can only see a few very faint superficial hairlines with just one thumbnail type hairline mark across the first track on S2 which is a little more obvious but it has no affect on the superb audio. The Vertigo labels are very clean with no marking as such just some spindle wear.
Play grading
The bass intro on 'Mississippi Woman' has no interference and and the opening vocal section is just as impressive. It continues to play with a clarity, depth and power that is second to none. That is very evident during the mid instrumental but if I'm honest it's evident in every section! The sonic quality is stunning and from start to finish there is no intrusion not even on the long fade out. A Mint start to the album without doubt.
'Who Do You Love' is of the same high end standard. From the intro and then through every vocal and instrumental section the clarity and power of audio really stands out here. Moving along at pace it was of course their only top 20 hit and it plays loud and true with no distortion on the top end. Superb guitar work here and another Mint track for sure.
The entire intro on 'She's Mine / She's Yours' is stunning! So strong and deep and... no intrusion. The opening vocal is equal to that and from then on it plays with such quality and shows just how well this vinyl has been looked after. The sonic quality is phenomenal and again the power of the audio is a real highlight. That man Hubbard really could play! The few seconds of silence plays with sublime clarity and then the final section is flawless. This is Mint all the way.
The spoken / steel guitar intro on 'Just One Time' plays with incredible clarity, there is no background, and the opening vocal is just as strong. It proceeds in the same precise way which is impressive when you consider this is a more 'low-key' track. The quieter sections play with STUNNING clarity and to the final note the playback is so clean and warm. I do not use a Mint grading lightly by the way, I only grade it if there is literally no background and this is one such example. this is Mint all the way through including the very quiet end section.

The intro on 'Chicago North-Western' is perfect and the same applies to the opening vocal. It continues to play with impeccable quality and the clarity of sound here is very impressive. Each note is so clean and precise and there are no ticks, clicks, pops or static. Another Mint version. The intro on 'Train' again has that typical deep rich sound and the first vocal has no intrusion either. Owen's voice is very different to Campbell's but they are both superb! From then on it plays with exceptional quality and the mid instrumental is a case in point. The audio here is comparable to a record pressed yesterday not almost 55 years ago! This is why the Vertigo pressings are so collectable, the sonic quality is breath-taking! From start to finish including the fade out the playback is stunning and Mint is again deserved.
'Nadine' drives powerfully with such strong audio and again there is zero interference. This just could not play any better and is Mint from the first note to the last.
The quiet intro on 'Are You Satisfied?' plays with incredible clarity, there is not even a single dust tick. It progresses in the same exact way and 'as new' is correct. Ellis' bass adds so much to the overall 'sound' on this album and particularly here. I have sold a few of these down the years but this version has to be the most 'complete' I have ever heard - each and every note is so 'clean' and there is just nothing getting in the way of the audio. Running at over 6 minutes you might expect a little background somewhere but no! The clarity is outstanding and I am 100% confident in grading this classic track as Mint - what a version!
In summary this first Vertigo pressing plays with genuine quality and there is no interference. As stated there is some spindle wear but it has has been so carefully handled down the years which has clearly helped it retain all of its original sonic quality. It can only have been played on high end equipment surely. I've just noticed that I've graded every track as Mint, there is not Mint- in there, and that is a measure of the clarity and depth of the audio on offer here. Together with a fine cover this is a FINAL UPGRADE archive pressing in every way.
The Gatefold & Vertigo Swirl Inner
The cover is in excellent order with only a little shelf wear and is much better than so many you see. This is mainly due to it being unlaminated primarily so it's good to see one as clean as this. The top and bottom edges have some light rubbing and the spine has a some small 'rubs' on the top half and a little wear on the corners. The other corners have only minimal wear, just a little more bottom right, and the opening edge has only minimal handling wear also. The front cover is in great condition with only a couple of specks and hardly any fading and the back cover is just as good with only a minor touch of ringwear. The inside of the gatefold is immaculate and overall Ex- is a fair grade I believe.
The original poly-lined swirl inner is very clean with only minimal age related fading around the edges and some light creasing which is mainly in one corner. There are no side splits or tears.
Play tested on my Rega P2 with AT-VM95EN Cart / Denon PMA-520AE Amp / B&W 684 Speakers
This record has been professionally cleaned on a Pro-Ject VC-S machine

I will only send items items worldwide via tracked shipping. This provides 'peace of mind' in case of loss or damage. The shipping costs are shown below and combined shipping is always offered. Any over-payment will always be refunded.
The Royal Mail only insure up to a value of £250 so if an item sells for more it may be wise to use a courier service (e.g. Parcelforce or DPD). An extra insurance premium will be required but I will not know the exact amount until the final sale price is known. Because of this I will sometimes have to estimate the cost and this will be shown in the listing. All vinyls are packaged in strong over-sized custom made mailers with plenty of extra cardboard protection. They are placed inside separate poly-lined inners outside the cover so as to avoid seam splits in transit and then placed inside a PVC sleeve to provide even more protection. I pride myself on my high quality packaging as my feed confirms and if any customer has any specific requirements I am more than happy to help.
The mailers I use cost £1.00 each and I will use anything between 3-5 cardboard stiffeners which cost approx £0.18 each. There is also the cost of the poly-lined inner and PVC sleeve to consider, it all adds up! Not forgetting that eBay take 10% of the shipping fee also!!
