Julie Is Her Name is the first LP album by Julie London, released by Liberty Records in December, 1955, under catalog numbers LRP-3006, in monaural form. It was subsequently reprocessed to produce a stereophonic album, and this stereophonic version was released on May 25, 1960 as catalog number LST-7027. The album featured Barney Kessel on guitar and Ray Leatherwood on bass. The first track, "Cry Me a River", was released as a single (Liberty 55006) and was London's biggest chart success.
A Cash Box magazine reviewer noted that London combines in the album a more than generous amount of passionate, sexy and sophisticated presentation of material, which was carefully selected taking into account the vocalist's voice. Jazz critic Scott Yanow called this album one of the best in Julie London's career. Interpretations of well-known standards seemed to him simple, but at the same time executed with taste. He highlighted the songs "I Should Care", "Say It Isn't So", "Easy Street" and "Gone with the Wind".
THIS COPY is one of the 1960 STEREO represses of the 1955 original MONO recording, on the Liberty Records label (see Notes, below).
The vinyl has a couple of marks, but per a test listen, I was struck by good it sounded (i.e. the marks do not affect playback). It literally sounded like she was in the room! A very good listen. The vinyl is in Very Good Plus [VG+] or better condition.
The original cover is in great sturdy condition, but there is a split in the top seam from the record opening about half-way along the top. For that reason, I am only grading it as Very Good [VG], but except for the split, it would grade better.
The original inner sleeve is one of the nicer ones: a white sleeve with square corners and a center label hole, but also with a poly lining (with no hole). Has kept this disc is such good condition! Inner sleeve condition is Very Good Plus [VG+].
