Description

PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question.   OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In order to meet that goal, we will ALWAYS work with our customers on any concerns that may arise. Because of that dedication, there should be no need to open a resolution dispute before working with us.  Please keep in mind, we would prefer to continue to provide you the opportunity to acquire the rare music we present each and every week.   Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office. Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has become very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable.  We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our well over 18,000 positive feedback.   We use an ultrasonic KLAudio machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery.   We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. Please give us 5 stars in each category through the feedback system, and we will be able to effectively continue to fulfill your passion for rare and collectible music! We have served thousands of satisfied customers - far more than our feedback records indicate - and our aim is to continue to do so. Thank you for your interest and support.   ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ SHIPPING:   USA ~ 1 LP = $4.00 Media Priority rates vary by area; please inquire.   All Canadian and Overseas shipping ~ Please inquire about rates. • 55 YEARS OF AGE FINAL COLLECTION WORTHY

VERY RARE and HIGHLY RATED....Original 1966 first pressing garage rock crew from North of the border who issued but one highly collectible album ... if you like similar bands like Les Miserable s, Les Sinners, Les Differents, etc. - check out the Napoleons "A-GO-GO" and their raw reverb fuzz guitar garage gems from 1966!

Here is a very rare (in original pressing that has sold in three $$$ figures) and overall a pretty solid garage driven rock album, mixed with some French vocal-beat. This would have been tremendous If only they had recorded with English vocals, but even still it a very enjoying set, both sides are surprisingly strong and rival most groups in the European and USA sixties garage scene

Sporting a subtitle that says "music for dancing", 1966's "Les Napoleons a Go Go", offers up an engaging mix of snarling garage rockers and Mersybeat-inspired poprock. Enhanced by lo-fi production ala "Justice" (etc) label releases ...can you imagine if the ten tracks would have all sounded like 'Fou de Toi' and 'Reviens' with Jean Guy De Levo's snarling fuzz guitar ??? The band wanted to record in English but could not do so at that time in Quebec. You would've heard something tremendous then. Ironically, 99% of their performances were in English. Another Montreal band "The Haunted" also won a battle of the bands contest, but the first prize in that event was a recording contract with the Toronto-based Quality Records. They were allowed to record in English and went on to score a hit with '1-2-5'. For their first and only album, The Napoleons decided to mix the tempos up (per uual with '60s garage bands, so you get also nice ballads such as "Tu es Partie" and "La Vie Sans Toi". The band could have put ten of their own compositions on the LP, but the record company forced them to put a couple of well known English tunes, translated into French, instead of an all original set. That's how the French versions of The Beatles 'I Feel Fine' and 'We Can Work It Out' got on there. That being said, the band is at their best on up-tempo rockers...straight from the garage, such as "Fou de Toi", "Reviens" and "Je M'en Fou". Again, the set's low-fi production feel (again there are no production credits) adds to the overall appeal. as memtioned above, their covers of The Beatles' "I Feel Fine" (for some reason mis-translated as "I'm In Love") and "We Can Work It Out" (translated as "Tout S'arrangera") are great. This album is even more interesting for the fact that although all ten tracks are sung in French, the energetic performances more than compensate for the fact the lyrics are largely a mystery. Man, these guys were every bit as good as their Anglo competition ...

Noted are further thoughts by one of the Napoleons: "Our father was band manager. We recorded two 45's and one LP. After recording the second 45 we were so tired of being fu*ked by record companies that our father cancelled all recording contracts. As a result that aren't many Napoleons records floating around. The two 45s are extremely rare. 'Fou de Toi' was put on sale, but most of the product run was used to promote the parent LP. I remember my father had boxes of the single in the trunk of his car and gave them away at nightclubs, arenas, etc. The second 45 came out and was only pressed in small quantities. I have the master tape for this last 45 with a couple of different takes.

We didn't care about the money, we didn't care what other jealous bastards thought about us, we only had one thing in mind: play that rock and roll music like it should be played and enjoy seeing people dancing and having a good time and trying to keep us there for the night."
