Further Information/Comments

A nice clean copy of this highly regarded LP. Dating from 1958, this LP was recorded on 19th October just before the 6th edition of the show was transmitted. A 24-track LP , it features 7 song by Cliff in an exclusive performance including High School Confidential, King Creole, Early In The Morning & Somebody Touched Me. The record has a few light marks, whilst the sleeve has light buffing on opening edge & 2 corners and light handling creases in the laminate (due mainly to the unusual thiness of the sleeve for it's time, which resulted in the majority still about to be on average VG), but all-in-all an excellent copy and one of the best I've seen.

Oh Boy! was the first teenage all-music show on British TV airing in 1958 and 1959. It was produced by Jack Good for ITV.

Good had previously produced 6.5 Special for the BBC Television, but wanted to drop the sport and public-service content from this show, and concentrate on the music. The BBC would not accept this, so Good resigned.

ABC allowed Good to make two pilot all-music shows, which were only broadcast in the Midlands. These pilots were successful, so the programme was given a national ITV slot on Saturday evenings, from 6.00 – 6.30 PM, in direct competition with 6.5 Special, but starting slightly earlier.

The hosts were Tony Hall, a jazz record producer and critic, and Jimmy Henney, and the artists covered a broad spectrum of music including ballads, jazz, skiffle and rock and roll. The show was broadcast live from the Hackney Empire.

Each week Oh Boy! featured resident artists plus a selection of special guests. The residents included Cuddly Dudley, who sang on 21 shows, Cliff Richard (20 shows), The Drifters (Later to become The Shadows) (17 shows) and Marty Wilde (17 shows). Guests included Billy Fury, Tony Sheridan, Shirley Bassey and Lonnie Donegan; with occasional US stars, such as The Inkspots, Conway Twitty and Brenda Lee.[2] The solo artists were supported by a specially created house band Lord Rockingham's XI, who went on to have hits in their own right, including a No 1 single "Hoots Mon". Performers were also supported by the singing and dancing of The Vernons Girls, the Dallas Boys and Neville Taylor's Cutters

Eight episodes were re-broadcast in the US, but only two of the 38 shows (or 40 shows including the two pilots) still exist. The last of these original shows was broadcast on 30 May 1959.

I am a collector who has been collecting records for nearly 30 years, and these records are either part of my collection that I no longer require, or have acquired over the years as part of a job lot I purchased.

I have been buying and selling on Ebay since July 2000, and have a 100% positive feedback rate. I pride myself on giving accurate gradings and doing everything I can to ensure that every sale goes smoothly.

I believe that collectable records are only worth what someone is willing to pay for them, so all my auctions have a realistic starting price in relation to their rarity and/or condition.

______________________________________________________________

My gradings are based on the system used by Record Collector magazine as described below

Mint: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

Excellent: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.

Very Good: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

Postage and Packaging

All records are sent securely packaged in purpose made mailers with at least 2 cardboard stiffeners, clearly marked fragile.I  always remove the record  from the outer sleeve (to avoid seam split whilst in transit) and then insert the record and sleeve into a brand new polythene sleeve.

I only post items as per Ebay and Paypal terms & conditions, which require that items are sent by a method that is trackable. Due to this, please be advised that you check that the postages rates listed below are acceptable to you before bidding, but please be assured, P&P charges are only those incurred and represent no profit to me.  UK packages are sent 2nd class recorded, as there appears to be only a minor  difference in delivery times between 1st & 2nd class which the additional charge does not seem to warrant. If required, I will send 1st class (if requested) but there will be an additional charge to cover  the extra cost.

I  enter the tracking number for all packages on to Ebay either on the day of dispatch or the following day, so that you are fully aware of the progress of dispatched items.

I do combined shipping, so if you win more than one item it will work out a lot cheaper on the postage if I send them in the same mailer. If you purchase more than one record, please await receiving the invoice from me on the completion of the auction before paying, so that I can calculate the correct postage and you do not overpay.

Please note: If the value of the item, or combined items, exceeds the standard compensation rate, there will be no extra charge to you,  as I will cover the additional cost for the increased insurance.
