Jack Richards/Hall Daniels and The Naturals
Yuccabean/Can Can Petticoat -45/7"
Auctioning one 1956 45 rpm 7" single by vocalist Jack Richards, accompanied by Hall Daniels and The Naturals. To our knowledge, Richards labored in obscurity in the 1950's-as did the entire Harmad label, which seems to have never had a real hit. The intended A side was"Can Can Petticoat", which is a likable swinging dance track with a Jazzy sound and a good break. However, the B side, "Yuccabean", is real gone lyrically and swings like crazy with a great sax break. Daniels has a great voice and the song is really infectious! "Yuccabean" has caught on in UK dance circles (most common description is "Popcorn") and the original single now regularly fetches some serious coin when it turns up. (An interesting aside: It seems that this was Harmad's second attempt to make this song a hit. An earlier vocal group version by The Four Friends called "Yucca Bean" is enjoyable, but not nearly as catchy.)
Disc (red label with silver print-cool sword logo!) still has good gloss, showing some light marks, but no serious scratches of any kind. Vinyl grade is Very Good Plus. Disc plays very nicely indeed with light surface noise only and clear sound. Check out our audio file, which has NOT been EQ'd.
