Jackie McLean “One Step Beyond” Blue Note 4137, original mono vinyl LP.
This is the deep groove, “Van Gelder”-stamped 1964 original mono pressing of Jackie McLean’s “One Step Beyond” on the Blue Note Records Inc. New York USA labels of BLP 4127. “P” or “ear” present in deadwax. Musicians include McLean, Anthony Williams, Grachan Moncur, Bobby Hutcherson and Eddie Khan.
Vinyl is in excellent shape, with the occasional pop or tick. Labels clean and clear. Side two, track two: surface wear and crackles are audible in the beginning, but is soon overwhelmed by the instruments. As with all first pressing Blue Notes, the music is so powerful, dynamic and full of tone it easily overcomes any surface marks. No feelable marks. Good gloss. Cover shows signs of wear including bent corners, tape, aging, very minor water damage, discoloration, and spine wear. No split seams. See photos.
This LP was play-tested on a high-end system consisting of Music Hall MMF-7.3 turntable/Ortofon Bronze cartridge, Heed Audio Elixir integrated amplifier, Heed Quasar Phono stage and Quad S2 speakers.
