Jackie Mittoo – ‘Deeper And Deeper’ / Manchesters – ‘Selassie Bandman’ – Studio 1 or Coxsone blank (JA)
Re-listing this, due to a time-waster. A Buy It Now! option is offered, at around twenty percent less than the highest (true) bid a couple of weeks ago. A good price for a magnificent record, I dare say!
This is a very rare record, with two great tracks back-to-back. ‘Deeper And Deeper’, Jackie Mittoo’s take on Barry White’s ‘I’m Gonna Love You Just A Little Bit More Baby’, belongs next to classic Studio One covers of ‘Soulful Strut’ ‘Time Is Tight’. The flip is also interesting, a roots reggae tune by a highly obscure vocal group called The Manchesters – straight from country by the sounds of their voices, and all the better for it.Condition: Excellent, close to near mint. An unusually smooth Studio One pressing; although ‘Deeper And Deeper’ starts very quietly, there are virtually no clicks and hardly any background noise. An absolutely top-notch copy (please listen to the clips). Clean labels; title info in thin ballpoint on the ‘Deeper And Deeper’ side and a sort of mirror image of a Coxsone label on the ‘Selassie Bandman’ side (please see scans).
