A mint copy of the Jackson 5’s second and last single on the Steel-Town label. I picked up a few copies when I worked at a vintage/collectable record store 28-years-ago. Shiny mint - never played.  Comes from box of mint, factory-fresh copies discovered in the early 80’s. Extremely clean label – no writing whatsoever. NOT A BOOTLEG.  Numbers in trail-off wax read Z4KM-5219-1A (a side) and Z4KM-5220-1A (b side).

This pre-Motown single is extremely rare and one in this pristine condition is very difficult to find.

The historical importance of this recording and rare pressing is huge. I’m not sure how many copies were pressed, but I’ll bet that only a few thousand are in circulation – mostly beat up and played to death. A great opportunity to invest in a valuable and rare piece of the Michael Jackson legacy.

Some history….

Steeltown Records was a short-lived record label active from 1966 to 1972 and formed by Gordon Keith in Gary, Indiana. It's best known as the label that first signed The Jackson 5 a couple of years before Motown signed the young quintet.

The Jackson 5 recordings and released two singles during their short tenure at the record company—"Big Boy" and "We Don't Have To Be Over 21 (to Fall in Love)"

The Jackson 5 released this second and final single through Steeltown Records—"We Don't Have To Be Over 21 (to Fall in Love)". The two singles were to be supported by an eleven track studio album but it was never released. On July 26, 1968, the group signed a new contract with Motown Records. However, as the groups Steeltown contract had not yet expired, the new contract could not be fully executed until March 11, 1969. Motown Records tried to get the group out of their Steeltown contract, ultimately with a financial settlement.

These will only become more scarce and the prices will surely skyrocket. Just try finding one a few years from now. Once these are gone they probably won't surface again anytime soon.
