This is the original release by Polydor (PD-1-6071) in 1976. It is the second album of new material James Brown released that year, between HOT and BODYHEAT. Although some consider this a disco album, the only cut here with an overtly "disco beat" is the tepid "You Took My Heart," the rest is classic James Brown. The opening cut "Medley: Get Up Offa That Thing / Release The Pressure" became his last Top Ten hit on Polydor. It was inspired by a show where Brown had to exhort a lethargic audience to do the same. His scream in the beginning sent the level meters in the studio off the scale, resulting in the opening distortion! The second single taken from the album, "I Refuse To Lose," an enjoyably fast and funky concoction backed by the bluesy "Home Again," didn't fare as well. The album's highlights are "Can't Take It With You" and "This Feeling." The former begins with a beat reminiscent of "Say It Loud," but morphs into a drivin' mover with a party atmosphere, featuring excellent keyboard and guitar breaks. The latter ends the album on a more laid-back but incessantly funky note. "This Feeling" is basically a remake of "I Got The Feeling" coming at you from another angle. The dual guitar and drum work here is a master class in the funk. Trumpeter Hollie Farris considers the recording sessions for this album to be a highlight of his career, and that vibe shows through the music.

Mint (M): A brand new record that has certainly never been played or is still factory sealed. Cover or box has no obvious defects;

Near Mint (NM): The highest grade for a used record. Almost no signs of being played, perhaps a spindle mark or barely noticeable light mark where record has been removed from the inner sleeve. Cover or box may have minor ring wear but no bends, creases or writing whatsoever;

Excellent (EX): Record has only a few light (non-sounding) marks and has been well preserved. There is very little lessening in sound quality. Cover or box has slightly more wear than NM;

VG: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Cover or box may have a pronounced ring wear, seam splits, writing, discoloration and general wear or tear (Details are indicated in the description)
