GRADING
· M…MINT...Record is like new. Its virgin surface has never known the sweet taste of the needle. A Sealed Record is a M record.
· NM…NEAR MINT…Record is close to the same condition as when it was purchased. A NM record may have a couple light marks, perhaps from sliding out of its paper sleeve, but certainly nothing that affects play. A NM record is one that was perhaps purchased new by a collector, closely guarded, deeply loved, and only played on fine equipment.
· EX…EXCELLENT….Record will be lightly used, but well cared for and never abused. There can be some marks on the surface, but NONE you can feel with a fingernail. There should be very little surface noise or crackle.
· VG+..VERY GOOD PLUS…Record is a typical used record found acceptable by collectors. It has been used, but not abused. It has been played many times, but still sounds great. It has some crackle in places, or a pop here and there, but never enough to overpower the music, even during quiet parts. THERE SHOULD BE NO SKIPS! A VG+ record is good enough to sample or record, and I should mention VG+ is good enough for me, personally, for use in my archives.
· VG...VERY GOOD…Record has seen some serious miles. Maybe it got left in a stack, vinyl to naked vinyl, next to the a few times. It plays through, but there is a lot of noise—crackles and pops. VG records are great for DJs because a little crackle lets the crowd know that they are hearing a DJ using real vinyl. Plus you don’t have to feel guilty about scratching with it! To me, if you are going to record from a VG record you are either crackly sound, you are a great audio scrubber, or you got lucky and found a quiet part. However, a VG vinyl will still have NO SKIPS!
