This LP is so obscure that it doesn’t even show up in most Jan & Dean discographies!  Very few of the original pressings of Jan & Dean’s first 1960 Dore LP still exist. I bought this one second hand about 30 years ago and hadn’t played it in about 29. I just put it on the turntable for the first time in a long time, wondering what it might sound like, and was pleasantly surprised. Chock it up to the durable vinyl that was used back in those days, but there’s very few audible scratches, and nary a pop, stop, or skip to be encountered. This album is a TRUE RARITY, and is an original light blue labeled Dore pressing from 1960, not to be confused with the more recent colored vinyl reissue.

This album was recorded a couple of years before the surf music craze, back when Jan Berry and Dean Torrence were a semi-obscure white doo-wop duo from L.A. who recorded in their spare time while attending local universities full-time. The songs were recorded on an Ampex tape machine in Jan’s garage, which had been converted into a functional recording studio. Producers were none other that Herb Alpert and Lou Adler, who had clearly learned their craft by then!  Two early Jan & Dean singles are included: "Baby Talk", and "Clementine".

The LP jacket remains in decent condition, with no corner bends, fading, warp, or scuffing, and light ring print visible only on the back cover. A previous owner had "reinforced" the top and bottom seams with transparent tape, which now shows up darker against back cover . There is also a small signature on the back cover, upper right hand corner and a small stain on the front cover where it appears a price sticker once was.   

The record itself was a joy to listen to. Aside from a few seconds of light scratches during the lead-ins to the first songs one either side, there was very little noise to be heard, even between the tracks. Again, quality vinyl makes a huge difference.  Side one’s label has three faint date stamps as shown in the photo; the side two label is in impeccable condition. Overall, the vinyl is VG+ quality, with a slight amount of low-level noise that’s only detectable between a few of the tracks.   Cover is rated VG-, and overall the LP is VG.   A very nice sounding record, especially considering it's age!

S&H for this item in the U.S. is $3.50 by USPS media mail, or (on request), $6.00 USPS priority mail.  Canadian shipment is $8.00 for 4-6 day delivery.  

Cost of shipments outside the U.S. and Canada are generally higher, and will vary depending on location.   Most European 4-7 day shipments will be in the neighborhood of $11.00 US.   It is highly recommended that international (non-U.S.) buyers contact me in advance o bidding so that an accurate shipping cost to your area can be provided.

I use a double thickness of heavy duty cardboard and either bubble wrap or styrofoam cushioning in all packaging in order to minimize any potential for damage during shipment.  The attention to protective packaging takes more time and effort on my part but I feel that it's well worth it to both seller and buyer. 

Insurance is not required but is available as an option for an additional $2.30.    I cannot be held responsible for any non-delivered items, so buyers may wish to consider this option.  For this particular item, given it's value I will cover the cost of delivery confirmation.  

Grading Scale:
10: Mint… Perfect record, clean gloss, no marks, beautiful in every way. Very few records will make mint.
9: Mint -… Very clean, with only a few light marks. A great record.
8: VG++... Condition between 7 and 9.
7: VG+… Used, but not abused. Light scratches only. Should play and look very nice with minimal surface noise.
6: VG… Still a nice record. Looks a bit used, light scratches, no gouges, still plays well, some surface noise.
5: VG-… A bit rough but will play ok. Fills the collection.
4: G… Plays very rough. Has multiple scratches. What a bargain!!
3-2-1: You probably wouldn't want it, but who am I to judge!
