Description

Here we have a rare recording by virtuoso violinist Jan Kubelik on an original Black G&T Concert 78rpm record, number GC 7968.

This is one of his earliest recorded efforts, using his own Cremona violin, and his playing is absolutely dazzling.

He has entitled it “The Last Movement From Carmen” (which I should imagine would have been an attempt to punch Don Jose in the nose).

Be that as it may, it's written by Bizet and recorded 21st of November 1903 in London.

The matrix number is 4602b.

It is a nice clean copy and it plays loudly and well.

There is some very, very slight surface rubbing (from an old record sleeve perhaps) near the label, which has absolutely no effect on the sound, on my good Shure cartridge/stylus anyway.

I have an old photo of Kubelik, and he looks very much like a young Philip Jenkinson (for those who remember his TV programmes about the history of film).

Please study the photographs for more details, I’m trying to be as honest as I can here.

The record in the photograph is the record you will get.

I have described the item to the best of my ability, and everything looks in pretty good condition to me, but please check the photographs to decide for yourself.

I am not a dealer. I am just an old bloke thinning out his record collection before the floor collapses.

I’m probably selling most of these discs for less than they cost me!

I apologise for the postage costs. I pack 78s VERY carefully, in cardboard “sandwiches” surrounded by polystyrene peanuts etc. The resulting parcels, though very secure, are quite expensive to post.

If you buy more than one record off me, I will GREATLY REDUCE the price of postage you have to pay.

PAYPAL only Please.

NO OVERSEAS bidders please.

And NO OVERSEAS bidders using UK addresses please.

This is because I like my buyers to be happy bunnies. If there is a problem, I like to sort it out personally.

I can't do this if you're thousands of miles away.
