Description
- Jay Jay Johnson 1955 deep groove 12" Blue Note original LP “The Eminent Jay Jay Johnson-Volume 1” (Blue Note BLP 1505, RVG & “Ear” in dead wax) Lexington Avenue address on labels.
- This is truly an all-star jazz LP with performances by Clifford Brown (trumpet), Charlie Mingus (bass), Jimmy Heath (tenor & baritone sax), John Lewis (piano), Percy Heath (bass), Kenny Clarke (drums), Wynton Kelly (piano) and Sabu (conga drum).
- The tracklist is: Turnpike/Lover Man/Get Happy/Sketch 1/Capri/Jay/Old Devil Moon.
- I was very pleasantly surprised by how well this played in spite of several scuffs and scratches, most of which turned out to be superficial. This is another one of those great Blue Notes that plays much better than it looks. You should expect surface noise but it is not at all overwhelming and the overall playback is crisp and clear. There is one ¼ inch scratch on side two, track two that is audible but even that one does not overwhelm the playback. The cover is very close to mint with no splits, tears, writing or cutouts.
