Jay Jay Johnson Sextet Blue Note 10" LP Japan 1999 EX+/EX-

This is the Toshiba-EMI Japanese reissue from 1999 (TOJJ-5028) which I have owned from new and hardly played - maybe once or twice in the year I bought it (about 2001 I think) but not since. It has a glossy, heavy card sleeve with obi and Japanese language insert and is in the original plastic sleeve which it was supplied in. The record has spent most of its life stored unused in the plastic sleeve it was supplied in so the sleeve, obi and insert look like new - see photos. The record itself is free from scratches as far as I can tell. However, there is a 6cm-long linear mark on track 1, side 1 which looks like a line drawn on the record with a pencil. I have play tested this track and I didn't hear the repeating 'click' that I would expect from a scratch so whatever this mark is it's inaudible, at least on my record player (Rega P3/RB300/Elys). I have seen similar marks on some of my other records, all of which have been stored unplayed for at least 12 years, and in every case they have turned out to be inaudible. I suspect they have arisen from prolonged contact with the inner sleeve during long term storage but that's only a guess.

I pack records carefully with the record outside the sleeve (for records that have been opened) in a layer of bubble wrap and ship them in a dedicated corrugated cardboard record mailer.

Record Collector grading scheme:

MINT: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.
EXCELLENT: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening  in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and / or creasing.
VERY GOOD: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration  in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and  tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.
GOOD: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated,  perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding,  scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.
FAIR: The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable  surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents will be torn, stained and / or defaced.
POOR: The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and  contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.
