Jazz By Sun Ra, Vol. 1, Original Mono Transition Trip 10 + Booklet
A note on this recording: The first Sun Ra album, recorded on 7-12-56 (the date appears on the labels) at Universal Recording, Chicago. Vinyl: VG ... (conservatively) A very imperfect but still very listenable copy. The only really bad spot is Side 1, track 3, with three very audible clicks and a possible sticking point (it stuck once, but not another time). Otherwise, the main problem is background noise which is sporadic but recurrent. However, the volume of the background noise ranges from the inaudible to quite low, which is to say that, given a reasonable volume, it usually cannot be heard or is so low as to be only a minor problem. There are also stretches without any problems and at least three tracks are quite fine. The sound quality is fully intact and excellent. Covers: VG+ ... The top and side seams are neatly and completely split (repairable with some glue). Just a tiny bit of age-related spotting on the front cover. The graphic remains quite fresh and bright. The back cover is just a black piece of (rather thick) cardboard.
Booklet: VG++ ... A crease on the front cover and very small tear on the back cover. A bit yellow with age, otherwise in fine shape, completely clean.
A note on the label: The A-Side label is completely detached but otherwise in fine shape (ready to be glued). Not sure what the real story here is, but the back of label really doesn't show any signs of ever having been glued to the platter, it is completely smooth and intact.
Packaging includes new audiophile inner sleeve, new outer sleeve, cardboard padding, bubble-wrap and a thick cardboard record box. Insurance will be provided at no cost to the buyer.
