A double album taking the form of an extensive interview where Hawkins discusses the jazz scene from the Thirties onwards, his peers, and the style of the music - one very much for the purists as no trivia is included. Hawkins was a true warrior in the anarchic tradition of the genre. When talking about being accused of playing "wrong notes" Hawkins pretends to be obtuse by saying, "I don`t know what they mean by that." On classically trained musicians in an orchestra pit - "All they know is how to read music," he comments dismissively. What struck me listening to this is that this man possessed the most wonderful soft, soothing voice. The record has a degree of background noise but none of it to serious, and there is no music for it to detract from. The sleeve is rough around the edges, with scuffs and splits, but overall in fair condition.
