Review

During the early years of the bop revolution, few of its younger pianists recorded unaccompanied solos.  Even by 1961, solo albums by the bop musicians were considered a bit unusual, but Elmo Hope (an underrated composer and pianist) fares quite well during this Riverside set.  Hope is joined by his wife Bertha on second piano during three of the eight numbers, most notably on a swinging "Blues Left and Right." Of the solo pieces, Elmo Hope is at his best on "When Johnny Comes Marching Home" and a cocktailish, but appealing, version of "Liza."

NOTE:  This album came to us as part of the estate of a shop owner who maintained a personal collection of jazz LPs, many of them sealed.  This album was not sealed at the time we acquired it, but it appears to be unplayed like nearly all of the albums in his collection.

Condition:

DISC:  NEAR MINT with 100% of original gloss, as clean as can be found.  Appears to have been played one or two times at most (possibly unplayed), and handled with utmost care.  Labels are clean.  Fidelity is superb.  A gorgeous disc you will never need to upgrade.

JACKET:  EXCELLENT with clean and bright panels.   Seams, spine, and surfaces are excellent.  There is hardly a trace of ring wear on panels.  Slight wear at the corner tips.  No writing, stickers, or cutout/deletion marks.  Overall a superb jacket you will be proud to display.
