Description
This is a bound volume of "Gargoyle," a magazine published every month during the school year by students at the University of Michigan, covering 1926 and 1927. Each issue contains about 50 pages of humor, ads and collegiate hijinks, with full-color front and back covers.
Dancing is important, of course, so there are several large ads for Jean Goldkette's Victor Orchestra and other bands Goldkette's agency presented, including McKinney's Cotton Pickers (at the Blue Lantern!) and Fletcher Henderson's Orchestra. Not all of the ads are pictured in this listing. The only band pictured is the Cotton Pickers; there are no pictures of the Goldkette band or Bix, unfortunately. But we know they played at the J-Hop.
This item is in excellent condition. The interior pages have yellowed a tiny bit over the last 95 years, but the colors are still vivid and the pages are otherwise undamaged. The binding is strong.
This volume weighs about 4 or 5 pounds, so expect shipping it to cost more than a record.
