Description
Jean Goldkette and His Orchestra play a hot, modernistic arrangement of "Just Imagine," a pretty tune with a great trumpet obbligato behind Greta Woodson's vocal. Bassist Steve Brown is audible throughout and Harold Stokes takes short solos on accordion.
Matrix 46070-4, recorded on July 12,1928, was issued on Victor 21565. For years, the masterful trumpet work was thought to be by Bix Beiderbecke himself. Now we know that the talented trumpeter is Sterling Bose.
Offered here are two single-sided, vinyl master tests of Victor matrices 46070-3 and 46070-5, recorded in Chicago on July 9, 1928, which never appeared on 78 rpm records. If you have the Timeless CD called "Jean Goldkette Bands," track 13 (labelled "46070-1 or -2") is in fact matrix 46070-3, recognizeable from a clam in the obbligato following the words "love notes ending I love you." Track 14 of the CD, labelled "46070-2 or -1," is in fact matrix 46070-5. Although Lord's discography lists four takes (1, 2, 4 and 5), there are only three takes (3, 4 and 5).

These tests are in E+ condition and sound great. The spindle holes are slightly enlarged, but centering the records is no problem.
