THIS IS THE ORIGINAL 1st STEREO PRESSING FROM 1970 of "King Kong: Jean-Luc Ponty Plays The Music Of Frank Zappa" by Jean-Luc Ponty. Very rare first US pressing of the vinyl as well as the jacket. RARE !

ST 20172-1 and ST 20172-2 etched in the run out groove. Black Pacific jazz sticker on vinyl. "Liberty/UA Inc." rare pressing. This is the original 1st pressing on World Pacific, not one of the many the re issues.

THIS RECORD IS FROM OUR PERSONAL COLLECTION. Well maintained. Very Rare.

*Because our clients are mostly jazz collectors and connoisseurs, as we are, we made it our policy to only sell vinyl that we grade in VERY GOOD  (VG) condition or better. This vinyl is in our opinion a VG+, looks and plays great.

Record Grade VG+ = Very well maintained. Just listened to both sides of the whole album and it plays nicely with no interuptions. No warping. It is from our personal collection. Little to no surface noise at all. A few surface scratches that have no effect on music other than an occasional pop, no distractions. Difficult to find this rare vintage stereo recording in such nice condition. (see pictures) 

Jacket Grade VG+ = Shiny, clean, well maintained. No tape. No seem splits. No writing. Has been kept in plastic. Has minor corner dents from normal shelf use. Very nice condition. One owner. A very clean jacket for a 45 year old album. (see pictures)

"King Kong: Jean-Luc Ponty Plays the Music of Frank Zappa" (or simply King Kong) is an album by French jazz fusion artist Jean-Luc Ponty first released in 1970 on Liberty Records' World Pacific Records subsidiary label and later released on Blue Note. The album contains numerous selections Zappa had previously recorded either with the Mothers of Invention or under his own name, including:

*"King Kong", originally included on the Mothers' 1969 album Uncle Meat

*"Idiot Bastard Son", from the Mothers' 1968 album We're Only in It for the Money

*"Twenty Small Cigars", from Zappa's 1970 album Chunga's Revenge

*"America Drinks and Goes Home", from the Mothers' 1967 album Absolutely Free

In addition, the track "Music For Electric Violin And Low Budget Orchestra" includes the themes from "Duke of Prunes", from Absolutely Free, and "Pound for a Brown", from Uncle Meat. Zappa excised those themes, and everything that followed them, when he later recorded the piece himself under the title "Revised Music For Guitar And Low-Budget Orchestra", which was first released on his 1978 album Studio Tan.
