Ultra rare and totally obscure privately issued double album of early electronic computer music compositions (most never reissued elsewhere in any format), documenting a concert given at the University Of Tulsa and produced by programmer Jim Justice. The standout is Inharmonic Soundscapes by Risset, a reworking for solo electronics of his well known piece "Inharmonique" which was originally for soprano and tape, realized at IRCAM using the Music V program. Other tracks include Dashow's work made on Music 4BF, Peterson's Voices which uses 3 different computer speech synthesizers, Wallraff's tribal-inspired Dance made on the PDP 11/50 computer, Wessel's piece produced at IRCAM, McKee's Episodes realized on the Xerox Sigma-6 using Justice's SIMPFONICS, Thome's work realized on an IBM 360-91, Ghent's Brazen created at Bell Telephone Laboratories on the GROOVE system, and Olive's rather insane sidelong "opera" about a computer that learns to speak and falls in love with its creator. All in all, a highly recommended computer music gem!

Risset is a composer, pianist, and theorist who studied music under Andre Jolivet and also studied mathematics and physics; he worked at IRCAM with Pierre Boulez, at Bell Labs where he met Vladimir Ussachevsky and worked with Edgard Varese, John R. Pierce, James Tenney, and Max Mathews, and as the first computer-based composer at the legendary INA-GRM musique concrete studios (center of study for electroacoustic pioneers like Pierre Schaeffer, Pierre Henry, Francois Bayle, Michel Chion, Luc Ferrari, Francois Bernard Mache, Ivo Malec, Bernard Parmegiani, Michel Redolfi, Ragnar Grippe, Jon Appleton, Jean Michel Jarre, Karlheinz Stockhausen, and Iannis Xenakis). • Dashow is an electronic composer who studied under Milton Babbitt, James K. Randall, Lawrence Shifrin, Earl Kim, Edward Cone, Boykan, and Berger; he created the MUSIC30 language for digital sound synthesis and founded the Forum Players. • Petersen was a student of Ercolino Ferretti and Vladimir Ussachevsky. • Wessel is a psycoacoustician, psychologist, and composer who studied with Max Mathews, John Chowning, and Loren Rush and worked at IRCAM. • Thome was the first woman to receive a PhD in music from Princeton; she studied with Milton Babbitt, Roy Harris, and Darius Milhaud. • Olive was a student of Ralph Shapey and worked at Bell Labs on speech synthesis. • This album should be of interest to fans of early computer musicians like Lejaren Hiller, Gottfried Michael Koenig, Barry Vercoe, J.K.
