Jeff Beck Group SIGNED LP, Rod Stewart, Ron Wood etc
LP sleeve signed by the four members of the Jeff Beck Group circa 1968/1969.
Jeff Beck - Rod Stewart - Ron Wood - Micky Waller.
The Jeff Beck Group was formed in London in 1967, with Beck on guitar Rod Stewart on vocals, Ron Wood on bass and Aynsley Dunbar on drums.In early '68 Dunbar left, briefly replaced by Roy Cook and then Micky Waller. Tony Newman replaced Waller in 1969.
This places the signatures as being from 1968 or 1969.
It was this line-up that recorded the Truth LP.
This LP was purchased as part of a fairly small collection of LPs from the 1960s, mostly Soul and Beatles etc LPs. The owner of them explained to me that a friend had obtained the signatures for her when the band played locally at Chertsey in Surrey, UK, most probably at a venue on the Thames called the Cricketers (now long demolished). The signatures were obtained on what was to hand, which happened to be a fairly battered original Motown compilation LP.
Although no first person provenance, I feel everything is right and rings true about the signatures. The previous owner had only just sorted the records out, and was actually unsure who had signed the LP, although when we pored over it, Rod Stewart and Jeff Beck were fairly obvious, and I realised then that it was the Beck Group line-up. The venue also rings true. I'm a bit too young to have been to see '60's bands there, but locally the Cricketers has a reputation amongst those who were fortunate enough to attend as having had some great names and bands play there.
Nonetheless, full refund offered if unhappy for any reason.
Sleeve is a bit tatty and worn, although the signatures are all bold and legible, with just some light browning and creasing to the sleeve near Rod Stewart's signature. The previous owner's name is also penned to the top right hand corner of the rear of the sleeve.
The LP is really battered beyond belief, with great big gouges and a network of marks. It will not be playable, and serves only as a backdrop for a piece of history, and is thus included along with the sleeve.
