WOW!! For sale is an extremely hard to find UNCENSORED first pressing of Jefferson Airplane’s debut album Takes Off! It is the 11 song “version 2”. These are very scarce, especially in Stereo! Mono was still the dominant format in 1966 so far fewer Stereo copies were pressed. I have play tested it and it does indeed play the “scandalous” lyrics that were quickly changed and replaced on A2- “Let Me In” and B2- “Run Around”. This is a GREAT playing copy!! Detailed description below:

Sleeve: VG-

Solid sleeve! No actual seam splits or major bends/creases. There is just the faintest beginning of a 1/4” “split” that’s about to form along the top opening edge. It seems to really be only on the paper slick, not the cardboard itself beneath.

There is mild ring wear and general dirt...a couple of wrinkles near the spine on front. Decent corners- a couple slightly rounded and top right corner is bumped. Some staining to bottom left corner on the front and near the spine on back. There are some typical indents and a little chipping to the very top which makes a couple of the catalogue letters/numbers at the top a little harder to read but apart from that, it’s a very legible spine. Study pics closely!

Disc: Strong VG

Solid disc still has some gloss. There are many light hairlines and small marks, but there are no deep feelable scratches or anything substantial. I have play tested this and it sounds spectacular! I only heard some occasional crackles at the start or in between SOME songs mostly but certainly not ALL. There were absolutely NO skips, jumps or loud pops. I found it to be an extremely pleasant listen and never felt that the mild, sporadic crackles were distracting…I was a little surprised at how few crackles there were actually…and the audio quality sounded clear and strong! The disc looks quite decent, but it plays even better than it looks! Very enjoyable.

Labels: VG

No unwanted writing. These old black RCA labels were pretty prone to scratches so there are some scratches here and there, evidence of play (spindle traces) and some general wear around the spindle hole where it is raised just enough to rub.

All in all, a solid VG, wonderful play copy of this rare uncensored first pressing/second version of this iconic and important debut album!

I try to be extremely detailed in my descriptions but please feel free to ask me any questions you may have.

The disc has been ultrasonically cleaned and placed into an archival inner sleeve behind the jacket in a plastic outer sleeve to prevent any splitting. It is then snugly sandwiched between two cardboard stiffeners and shipped in a proper LP mailer. I am a collector myself so I understand the importance of good packaging.
