Despite being a hair more subdued than the noise-rock band’s previous releases, the still-manic Down didn’t break through, but unlike most releases of the time, it didn’t compromise either. The Jesus Lizard’s final studio album for Touch & Go and last record produced by Steve Albini, it’s also the last essential statement the band put down on tape. Part of Touch & Go’s stellar Jesus Lizard reissue campaign, Down has been meticulously remastered from the original tapes by Bob Weston (Mission of Burma, Shellac) and original engineer Steve Albini.
