1971 Island Records

Pink Rimmed Label

This is a lovely, complete example of the rarest UK LP released by Jethro Tull. This version was released slightly later than the original green label Chrysalis version, part of the deal which saw the band switch from Island to newly formed Chrysalis meant that two of their albums (this one and Benefit) were released on both labels with the Chrysalis releases being a few months earlier.  The Island versions were then available for a few months and then all subsequent issues were again on Chrysalis. Hence it's rarity. 

This has the following 1st press matrix numbers:

Side 1: ILPS 9145 A-1U

Side 2: ILPS 9145 B-3U

Detailed description
Vinyl: The vinyl looks great and has retained its original high sheen.  Under bright light, fine hairlines and marks were visible, but nothing significant. I have played the entire record and it sounds excellent. There is some soft background noise and crackle which can be heard in the quiet parts and the run-ins/outs, fades, silent grooves and intros and the occasional random click. This is a superb example and was a real pleasure to listen to. 
Labels: Both labels look superb with absolutely no signs of damage, writing, stickers etc and minimal spindle marking.
Sleeve: The fully textured (inside and out) E.J. Day sleeve has a mark on the rear where the record has rubbed & also has a sticker on the top right corner on the front which reads 'JETHRO TULL' (see the photo).
Edge wear: There is wear to all the edges, especially near the corners. The spine is solid and firm and the text is all 100% readable, although the spine is a bit grubby (as it is white).
Corner wear: moderate
Inner sleeve: The original lyric inner sleeve shows no discolouration but has split it's seams on all 3 sides (2-3 inches long), the bottom seam being taped up but this also has split. 

Detracting features not covered above:  None. This is a great example of a sought-after rarity.
