Living in the Past: Rare genuine mint 1972 UK 1st pressing 21-track double vinyl LP, housed in a superb embossed hardback gatefold picture sleeve with integral glossy 12-page photo booklet and inners. The sleeve shows very little signs of use and the vinyl remains in Mint condition. This gatefold double LP album has a thick quality cardboard cover, which is in Excellent Plus condition, and includes a 20 page 12" photo booklet with colour photos of Jethro Tull as well as detail information on the band; the vinyl is in Mint condition and has the first press A1/B1/A1/B1 matrix numbers and sounds wonderful – a superb copy.
Highly desirable for its first press matrices, and hard enough to find in good condition, this copy is in Mint condition. And as these first pressings come up so infrequently this could be a once in a lifetime opportunity to add this extreme rarity to your collection at an extremely advantageous price.

This unique, rare, FIRST PRESSING, Jethro Tull double LP from the early years of the band’s career is hardly ever offered for sale in this condition.

This is the extremely rare real thing: a GENUINE MINT first UK pressing. The record and embossed hardback gatefold picture sleeve are both in superb condition, without any obvious signs of use (the only thing that betrays their 41 years of age is some slight fading to one edge of the cover just like you might find on a hardback book). See pics. All items are the genuine originals bought together by me in 1972 not reprints or fakes. The LPs are the original first press stereo LPs, which were only played on top-end audiophile equipment and lovingly cared for.

Living in the Past is a double album quasi-compilation collection by Jethro Tull which contains album tracks, outtakes, the "Life Is a Long Song" EP, and all of their singles except for "Aeroplane", "Sunshine Day", "One for John Gee", "17" and the original United Kingdom version of "Teacher" (the United States single version was included instead). Many of the tracks only appeared as British releases before being compiled on Living in the Past for the first time in the American market.
The album was named after the single released in May 1969 and released in an elaborate gate-fold packaging that contained a large colour photo booklet with over 50 photos of the band. Two songs, "By Kind Permission Of" and "Dharma for One" were recorded live at Carnegie Hall. "Love Story", "Christmas Song", "Living in the Past", "Driving Song", "Sweet Dream" and "Witches' Promise" were originally released as mono singles and remixed into stereo for inclusion on the album. The US vinyl version has "Hymn 43" in place of "Locomotive Breath" and omits "Inside" in favour of "Alive and Well and Living In", previously unreleased in the US. This is the UK version.

Tull's 'Living In The Past' is a semi-compilation album featuring a host of non-album tracks and singles, one track off each of the first four studio albums, and one side of Live material. It serves as a wonderful introduction to a really great band, and the selection of songs all display the versatility of the musicians involved. This covers their early years with their, somewhat 'simpler' approach to bluesy/folky rock music, although the Live tracks hint at what was to come.
'By Kind Permission Of' is composed by Keyboardist John Evan, and is mainly a fine performance on piano along with Anderson's virtuosic flute playing, demonstrating Evan's ability at tackling classical runs, with the rest of the band coming in at the end for a really exciting bash, albeit very brief. 'Dharma For One', originally a superb instrumental track off their debut 'This Was', is now twice as long, features vocals from Anderson and heavy- handed Hammond Organ playing from Evan, plus Clive Bunker's Drum solo, showing off 'double kick' with two bass drums, something that Cream's Ginger Baker revolutionised a couple of years earlier and wasn't heard too often at the time. The track 'Living in the Past' is a playful, jazzy tune in 5/4, showing Anderson's penchant for being clever AND catchy.
The original double LP comes in a hard-cover gatefold with a leather-like finish, and features a 20 page booklet full of colourful and amusing photo's of the band throughout their first few years of existence. An excellent addition for any music lover.
