You are watching a guaranteed authentic original stereo pressing of the "Are You Experienced" album by Jimi Hendrix circa 1967.  It has the Pink, Gold, and Green steamboat Reprise label which was indicative of the label style in 1967 and this label style was replaced by a two toned brown label very shortly after 1967.  The hand etched matrix numbers are:  Side 1 - 30681  RS 6261A  1G      Side 2 --  30682 RS 6261 B  1J     These original first run pressings can and will never be made again and after the few that are floating around out there in the hands of collectors are gone, there will never be any more.  Record companies can make a "deluxe, remastered, audiophile, special limited whatever edition"  but they can never make another original that was being sold in stores while Jimmy was playing on stage.  Plus, many claim that these originals have a better mix and sound.   This is the slightly heavier vinyl indicitive of the late 60's which stands up to wear far better than vinyl from the 70's and 80's.   I have an original first pressing mono also for any serious collectors out there who would be interested.

THis is a monumental album in so many ways.  A handful of albums define just what the decade known as "the 60's" meant.  Sgt. Pepper, Strange Days, Disreali Gears, Velvet Underground and Nico, Surrealistic Pillow are just to name a few.  "Are You Experienced" is most definitely always mentioned in the same sentence with those other albums since it was such a groundbreaking album.  This unknown new guitarist was drawing attention from not only fans but musicians alike.    Hendrix was able to use a guitar in ways no one was familiar with and achieve sounds that few had realized at this point in history.   Initially his reception was met with skepticism on early American Tours.  Perhaps this was due the the great wisdom and forsight his  record company showed by lining him on the same tour with The Monkees.   He was booed on stage quite often by young teenagers unable to grasp the direction Hendrix was heading at that time.   But eventually he traveled to England where a renaissance was in full bloom and was witnessed by musician of his peers such as Clapton, McCartney and Pete Townsend who were quite intrigued by his unique style and abilities.  During his time in England Hendrix was free to mold his unique sound due to the acceptance of new ideas that Englands artistic community allowed and  partially due to the fact that he now was sharing something in common with Syd Barrett.   Hendrix returned to America after a great reception in England and began to find a wide audience here at home.   Few artist have had such a monumental affect on popular music and inspired so many musicians with their particular style as did Hendrix.   In his brief stardom he left us with only a few albums but those albums are still being played by many devout fans from many generations almost 50 years later.   When these original first pressings are gone there will never be another.

COVER --- a strong VG+    There are about 3 light creases along the spine approximately half an inch long each which run horizontally into the spine.  They are not very deep so they are hard to notice except upon close inspection.  A little normal wear along the seams and corners and basically that is all that could be said negatively about this cover.  The colors are still somewhat sharp.  Seams and spine are sturdy and overall it's a very attractive cover considering it is 45+ years old.   No major flaws,, no ringwear to mention.  I've  shown as much detail in the photos as possible.   Own an original first pressing for a reasonable price. There are not that many decent ones left out there.   I would rate this cover about an 8.4 on a scale of 1 to 10. (the 10 point scale can be found by clicking on "ME" icon)

RECORD ---  SIDE ONE is VG++,  SIDE TWO is NM,    Side one has just a few very light sleeve scuffs.  These are superficial in nature and are barely noticable even under bright light.  I've listened to both sides and the album sounds amazing, no loss in sound quality, no background noise to speak of.  Truly a great and rare original album.   Both sides have a glossy mirror like surface and both labels are beautiful.  HOWEVER, ON SIDE ONE if you look very closely at the top of the record label, you can barely see the word "LAW" which was written in a red pencil at the top.  It has been mostly erased (and erased quite well I must say) for the most part but if you look close you can still make out the letters.  Most of it is gone and it is very hard to notice.  There are NO nasty erasure marks either.  It's just a very faded hard to make out word "LAW" which really does not detract from the visual appearance of the record label.    Otherwise, everything else about the record and labels are in TIP TOP SHAPE.   I rate the record overall an 8.6 on a scale from 1 to 10.   Without the written word it would probably grade at a 9.2 because the vinyl really is nice.  A VERY NICE KEEPER !!!  A PART OF HENDRIX HISTORY !!
