Description
Jimi Hendrix - Are You Experienced - Vinyl LP - Track Records. Condition is "Used". Dispatched with Royal Mail 2nd Class.
Recently combined my small inherited record collection with my partners so now selling a few that we either do not listen to anymore or those where we have two copies. We are not dealers so any references on what it looks or sounds like are our own subjective thoughts - and should not be confused with any official record gradings.
This listing is for a very well played copy Are You Experienced by Jimi Hendrix. Pretty sure its an early release as its on Track Records. Its certainly old - and it looks it!. We were in two minds whether to list this or not as it may have seen better days? But having said that my partner says he has received worse LPs from dealers that have been graded VG (we are not in any way suggesting this LP is VG - just explaining our rationale for listing the LP). So please do read the description very carefully and do examine the photos - this is a comprehensive description so no returns accepted.
What it looks like - see photos for best description. An Ernst J Day cover. laminated on front - not on back. The cover is free from writing and stickers but it looks its age. Hard to photograph but there are quite a few creases in the laminate. - most noticeably in the bottom left corner where the sleeve has bent around the LP at some stage. On the rear there is some brown colour along two edges - assume this is sellotape residue? There is some edge wear - again most noticeable on the spine. Its not obvious when in the plastic cover but when taken out and parted you can see light through the spine so i would say it has a split of about 4 inches. The white (now age related cream) inner is present - and in quite reasonable condition - kept in newer inner sleeve at the moment. The LP Labels look really good and while the LP has obviously been well played this is not necessarily obvious from the labels - no writing /names and only slight spindle marks. The Lp does have many surface marks including what look like significant scratches. There is also a tiny chip on the edge of the LP - may have been dropped at some time as this is close to the worst scratch on the LP.
We think this is a very early if not first release as its on the original Track Records label. Side 1. 612001 - A one upside down triangle 1 Side two 612001 B Two upside down triangles 1
So what does it sound like: We played the LP all the way through as sometimes LPs surprise you. We do have what look like mint LPs that play full of static and we do have a few that look like they have seen better days but sound great. We would say this one is somewhere in the middle - but one that in our view sounds abetter than it looks like it should. Definitely no skips, jumps or sticks. Its very subjective but to my ears for most part the LP plays with clarity in the audio -Side 1 - the dreaded static really noticeable in rum=n in and quieter parts - not sure if this is due to it being over played or could do with a good clean. Whatever - it could definitely do with a clean as it does look a little dull. Other than crackle it does play a lot better than it looks like it should - very few clicks and no loud pops as i played through - and i did have the volume turned up. Side 2 is much crisper than side one not least that it doesnt suffer from static - so maybe side i is in need of a good clean - or it could be that side one has been played much more. The only real imperfections we heard were at a few clicks at the start of track one - and and a few light clicks for the first quarter of track 3. Played on a Rega P3 - other decks may play differently.
So in summary - The LP cover is showing its age and the LP itself has many surface marks and scratches and it does have static on side 1 - which is a shame as there are not so many pops and clicks. Side 2 has far less static but more clicks. But as this is a hard to find LP despite these imperfections there maybe someone who would like this as a collection filler.
