Here’s one from my “worthy” mis-pressed record shelf.
There have been many different records pressed over the years that fit this category but few command the attention this one received.
Jimi Hendrix/Band Of Gypsys - Band Of Gypsys 2
Released and recalled immediately, it has held up well over the years in collector circles. As with most similar situations affecting other records in history, some copies of THIS rarity were fortunately stocked and sold before a number of record shops had received the instructions from Capitol Records to gather up all their copies and await the corrected re-release to be offered. Anyone who had already bought a copy and returned it would receive the corrected copy in exchange. In this case NOT A CHANCE. I bought this new in a NJ mall and knew within seconds of playing side 2 that I had scored a mis-press. The track list on side 2 offers four tracks instead of the planned three and is arguably better than what was planned in the first place (just an opinion). Condition wise I can say the vinyl is NM. The cover still has the opened, original shrink keeping it clean and free of marks with some bends showing at two corners but nothing to bad. Since the cover is the same exact one used for the corrected vinyl issue, I did consider possibly replacing it with a perfect one but ultimately chose to keep the whole package original but that’s always an option if one should choose to. The vinyl record is the real prize here. Please observe the provided photos for your condition concerns and for a quick reference of the side 2 track list oddity and actual playing order of both planned and pressed songs.
