1970 press, 2nd issue label variant

The original track (UK) sleeve depicted puppets of Hendrix, Brian Jones, Bob Dylan, and John Peel. This was subsequently withdrawn owing to corporate pressure and Track replaced it with a photograph of Hendrix performing at the August 1970 Isle of Wight Festival, hence now referred to as the IOW sleeve.

Band of Gypsys was recorded/released in order to get Hendrix out from under a contractual obligation that had been hanging over his head for a couple years. Helping him out were long-time friends Billy Cox on bass and Buddy Miles on the drums because the Experience had broken up in June 1969. Hendrix took these shows as an opportunity to showcase much of the new material he had been working on. The music was a seamless melding of rock, funk, and R&B, and tunes like "Message to Love" and "Power to Love" showed a new lyrical direction as well. Although he could be an erratic live performer, for these shows, Hendrix was on -- perhaps his finest performances. His playing was focused and precise. Source allmusic.com

1970 press of Jimi Hendrix Band of Gypsys, Track records, Isle of Wight sleeve design; vinyl and clean audio graded EX no pips/pops/crackle. Sleeve shows signs of handling VG. A decent allround copy with clean audio.

Sleeve: Matt gatefold sleeve which is prone to show wear: shows signs of age related handling, edge, and corner rub/shelfwear, two small tears on front, spine remains in tack graded  VG/VG-

Labels: Classic black Track labels, light signs of play, small spindle marks only, graded VG+

Vinyl: Visually nice bright and shiny, black surface which retains its original gloss, closer inspection (under bright light and a magnifying glass) shows low signs of play, no marks/scratches graded EX towards EX+

Audio: Decent audio, plays through clean with no major problems - no sticks, clicks, jumps, pips, pops or crackle (played on a Project carbon - Ortofon 2M blue) graded EX

I am a collector of 47+ years, the few records I sell are either the results of upgrades, duplicates or a bit of thinning every now and again as this is. I strictly adhere to the Record Collector Magazine's Grading Guide using one + or - for addition guidance:

MINT: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. 

EXCELLENT: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and / or creasing. 

VERY GOOD: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable. 

GOOD: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.
