Description
I was recently handed a small Jimi Hendrix collection to disperse, and have pulled some of the rarities out for your consideration.
This album has been cleaned with a VPI vacuum record cleaning machine using Nitty Gritty solution. It was then played completely on a system based on Mark Levinson and McIntosh electronics on a Technics SL 1500 turntable with a $200 Grado cartridge, through new Magnaplanar speakers, looking for skips or pops, or noise that overpowers the recording. Then it was graded conservatively by an expert using the Goldmine system chart at http://www.dtmagazine.com/lpgrades.html as a guide. After grading each disc was placed in a new audiophile quality fully lined sleeve and the cover was protected by a new clear plastic envelope. You can buy this album with full confidence that the description is accurate.
This album is an oddity, and you can almost hear the workers at the factory when it happened: “Hey, Joe, look at that! The red disc you just made has a chunk of black vinyl floating in it! There must have been a little bit left when you changed color last time!” Joe stuck his head over the edge of the conveyor belt and considered it, then said, “No big deal. It won’t hurt anything, and anyone who buys this is gonna be stoned, anyway. They’ll never notice, or care. Run it on through.”
This double LP was issued by Trade Mark of Quality back in the early ‘70s. One disc is green vinyl, the other is red with the aforementioned floater. Neither have labels.
The cover art consists of one piece of 8/1/2” X 11” goldenrod paper with the TMOQ pig label on the bottom, along with TMQ 7502 and TWO ALBUMS CHEAP under the photos, and a typed songlist on the left side. One disc is apparently a bootleg of a concert he played on Maui, and the second one could be a recording of a promotional playlist on the local station at the same time, hence the Maui Broadcast title. Both records are stuffed into a generic single disc cover, which is still in the factory plastic wrap that protects the glued-on cover sheet. That plastic wrap, which is wrinkled along the edges and starting to pull back from the open edge, was still able to protect the cover enough so that it is graded near mint. The records inside are graded VG++, leading me to believe it maybe only got played one time, which might be a hint of the quality of the recording.
