Description

Artist - Jimi Hendrix

Title - Electric Ladyland

Format - Original Pre Release Double LP (Stereo)

Label - Track (613 008/009)

Matrix - This is where it starts to get confusing. Electric Ladyland was issued as a double LP with sides labelled A,B,C and D. A was backed with D on record 1 and B with C on record 2. This one is different, side A and B are on record 1 with C and D on record 2. The matrix on record 1 is 6130089 A//1 and 6130089 B//1 On both sides the 8 has been crossed out and a 9 added. On record 2 the matrix is 6130098 A//1 and 6130098 B//1 On this record the 9s have been crossed out and the 8s added.

Year of Issue - 1968

Condition - . Vinyl - Record 1 Side 1 has a few light marks that do not affect play. There is a very small indentation towards the end of the side that causes the record to stick in one place. The label has a hand written catalogue number and side label as described before. They are not easy to see on the black label. The label also has what appears to be some sticky glue residue.  Side 2 is Excellent with just a couple of light marks that do not affect play.. Again the label has some sticky patches but no writing and no spindle marks. Record 2 is Excellent both sides and the labels are clean with just one spindle mark on side 2 and none on side 1. The record labels have begun to lift at the edges showing another set of different labels beneath. The cover has some edge and corner wear, a few scuffs and creases. The inside of the gatefold is quite good with just a few laminatio creases. Overall the cover rates about VG. From the labels you can tell that this record has received very little play.

Description - This must be one of the rarest UK Hendrix LPs ever offered for sale. It has come from the collection of a UK club DJ who received promotional LPs and singles throughout the 60s and 70s. Hendrix collectors please read on and I will attempt to describe some of the differences between this and the commercial release. First and most obvious is the pressing of the records with side A and B on one record and C and D on the second record. . The Matrix numbers are also different and there are also various label errors with two sets of labels on record 2. I have scanned each so that you can have a good look.

Record 1 Side 1 has the catalogue number 613009 which has been crossed out and 613008 hand written above it. The title is Electric Ladyland Part 2 and the side is labeled as "Side 3" 3 has been crossed out and "A" written alongside. The label has a "Promotional Copy Not For Sale" sticker. The track listing is correct for side A and the side plays the tracks as listed.

Record 1 Side 2  has catalogue number 613009 and again the wrong title Electric Ladyland Part 2. The side is labelled "Side 4" (Not D)  and the track listing is from side B. It plays the tracks as listed on the label.

Record 2 side 1 has catalogue number 613009, is labelled "Side C" and has the title "Electric Ladyland". The track listing is from side C and the record plays the tracks as listed. This label is beginning to peel and there is a different Track black/silver label underneath. I dont want to try and remove the top label as it may cause damage but who knows what might be on the first label.

Record 2 side 2 has catalogue number 613008 is labelled "Side D" and has the title "Electric Ladyland" The track listing is from side D and the record plays the tracks as listed on the label. Again this label is beginning to peel and there is another different label underneath. There is also a "Promotional Copy Not For Sale" sticker on the label.

A few other points of interest. Record 1 does not have the upside down catalogue numbers but record 2 does. The sleeve is printed by E J Day and has the smaller pictures and white writing on the inside of the gatefold. So I am not sure where that leaves the blue text/white text debate but this is most definately the very earliest pressing and the sleeve is original and has not been switched. Please email me if you need any further details or if you know of another copy like this.
