Jimi Hendrix
Personally owned Jewellery Box
Here is a genuine, once in a lifetime opportunity to own the very jewellery box used by the great Jimi Hendrix and actually found in his New York apartment at the time of his death.
Bob Levine was Jimi's US manager and was also a personal friend of Jimi's - a trusted friend, at that. When the news of Jimi's tragic death was announced, Bob had the locks changed to Jimi's 12th Street apartment and over the course of a few days gathered Jimi's numerous possessions, sending most back to Jimi's family but keeping some momentos for himself, including this pleasant, typical 1960's arabesque three drawer jewellery box.
Bob Levine offered up this item for sale at the Cooper Owen auction on the 15th May 2003 and the vendor personally obtained the item at that sale. Moreover, he spoke to Bob Levine after the sale, who confirmed that the rings sold at the auction were actually in this box, which Jimi had used for years. There is indeed evidence of use in 2 of the 3 drawers but the overall condition is very good, with no rips or damage at all.
This is not going back to a rip-off auction house. I really want this to belong to someone who will appreciate it as much as I do. For any serious Hendrix collector, this is an unbelievably rare chance to obtain something from another league altogether - something Jimi owned and used daily.
I have kept the opening bid price as low as I can and I have thought long and hard about a Reserve but in the end I want someone else to have it and not be scared to make a bid. I have to make some cash due to personal circumstances, otherwise this would be with me forever.
Item comes with a personally signed statement from Bob Levine, attesting that the box was owned by Jimi and found in his apartment.
Good luck - this chance will surely never come again.
