Up for sale is The Jimmy Smith Complete February 1957 Blue Note Sessions on Mosaic 5lp, 180gr vinyl records. Stored in a heavy plastic outer sleeve. See pics. MQ5-154. Set #3216. I am the original Audiophile owner. This set has been played once on a Linn LP12, Ekos, Troika. All records are in PERFECT condition! The booklet is as new. The box has some very minor corner wear on 1 corner only. Pressed at RTI in California. Limited to 5000 copies only and no longer available. Some of the finest Jazz ever recorded! "The Complete February 1957 Jimmy Smith Blue Note Sessions" is an incredible snapshot of three days in the life of Jimmy Smith: 11, 12, and 13 February 1957. In those three days, Jimmy and his colleagues recorded enough excellent music to provide Blue Note with five albums: "A Date With Jimmy Smith Volume 1 [BLP 1547]", "A Date With Jimmy Smith Volume 2 [BLP 1548]", "Jimmy Smith at the Organ Volume 1 [BLP 1551]", "Jimmy Smith at the Organ Volume 2 [BLP 1552]", and "The Sounds of Jimmy Smith [BLP 1556]". All of that material on those albums plus several previously unreleased tracks are included on three full CDs in this Mosaic box set.

~ The music in this collection serves as a bridge between the hard bop of Jimmy's earlier recordings and the soul jazz of the classic recordings he made for Blue Note in the early 1960's. Perhaps the most unique feature of the music in this box set is the solo tracks by Jimmy, which are experimental and eclectic in that they contain snatches of classical music. These two tracks are unlike anything you will hear elsewhere in the Jimmy Smith catalog. The duets with Art Blakey and with Lou Donaldson are also unique treasures.
~ Like all Mosaic box sets, this one is a model for box set packaging. The 5 lp's are packaged in a 12x12 box with a stunning Francis Wolff photograph of Jimmy in concert on the front. The box contains extensively researched and well-written notes by Bob Blumenthal in a beautiful 14 page booklet supplemented with the excellent photography of Francis Wolff. In addition to putting these recordings in proper historic perspective, the author includes session-by-session details and track-by-track analysis of the music along with complete details regarding recording date and personnel. This Mosaic set was limited to 5000 copies, which sold out quickly. Like many Mosaic sets, this one now sells for many times it's original price because jazz collectors place such a high value of Mosaic box sets for their packaging and excellent sound quality.
